Umweltkatastrophen (Environmental disasters) are not rare nowadays and there will always be another one on its way someday, similar to the Erdbeden (earthquake) in Haiti a few days ago. This was the largest earthquake for 200 years. Die Erschütterung (tremor) measured 7.2 on the Richter scale which claimed up to 50,000 lives in Haiti. The number of Menschen (people) buried in the rubble is still unknown and the rescue operations are still ongoing.
Tens of thousands have no clean water or food and are desperate for aid, which is getting through slowly. Also die Krankenhäuser (hospitals) are full, die Ärzte (doctors) over worked and the medical supplies are short. This is making it difficult for the injured to get the medical help they need.
On top of all this, civil unrest has begun there are many incidents of Plünderungen (looting) with the police fighting back with tear gas. The hope for Überlebende (survivors) now, after 5 days, is becoming very small. Those who can are fleeing from the devastated city.
