What is Germany known for? This is a question, many Germans have asked themselves. What do Ausländer (foreigners) think about the Germans?
Generally Germany gets pinpointed to Bayern (Bavaria), as in USA people often think of Bratwurst, Bier (beer) and Lederhosen. Apparently German woman also own the cliché of not shaving under their arms and that Germans im Allgemeinen (in general) have a bad body odour.
A lot of people like to call the Germans “Crauts”, which is associated with a vegetable often eaten in Germany – Sauerkraut. The Germans are also unable to get rid of the Ruf (reputation) of being bad tourists and reserving the pool sun beds before Sonnenaufgang (sunrise) with their towels. Apparently Germans are also abrupt, easily beleidigt (offended) and cannot dance. German men have a beer Bauch (belly) and wear sandles with socks and the saddest of all, Germany even now, still gets associated with Hitler.
Are there also good things to say about the Germans? Many countries are under the impression, that Germans are always pünktlich (on time). They would rather be half an hour early than five minutes late. The German Verkehrssystem (transport system) is highly praised everywhere as well as the medical system. The sign “made in Germany”, on things like medication etc, stands for particular high quality.

But once you get to know them, you’d find that they are very kind and very friendly people 
Another Stereotype? A lot of people have the feeling that German people seem to be a little bit cold, quiet to strangers ( not very friendly)?
